Thala is Back: Can Dhoni As Captain Bring Back CSK’s Glory Days?

In what has been a dismal show so far for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are currently
positioned ninth out of the ten playing teams, had another setback. Their captain, Ruturaj
Gaikwad was ruled out due to a hairline fracture, which he sustained during the match against
Rajasthan Royals.

For CSK fans, this setback was a blessing in disguise as MS Dhoni resumed captaincy in
Gaikwad’s absence and will continue doing so for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.

Taking Back The Reigns

Gaikwad had just taken over the captaincy last season from Dhoni, 43, who had led CSK from
2008 to 2023. Dhoni on the brink of retirement has again taken up the reins of captaincy for
CSK at a time when having lost four of their first five matches, their dreams of qualifying for the
playoffs are quickly fading.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly gave his full support for Dhoni’s return as captain, stating
that Dhoni is a “different beast” when leading the side than when he is just playing for CSK.

Fans too have been ecstatic on Dhoni’s reinstatement, creating a buzz on social media with
messages like “Thala Dhoni back as CSK captain in IPL 2025—legendary vibes, the GOAT
returns!”

Will CSK’s Fortune Change?

As CSK prepares to face the Kolkata Knight Riders, all eyes will be on Dhoni to see if he can
steer the team back to winning ways and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Who will take Gaikwad’s place in the team, Mayank Agarwal or Ayush Mhatre or Dewald Brevis
or somebody else? Drop a Comment on who you think will be the chosen one!
