MA Chidambaram Stadium saw the home team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged out of the playoffs by Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Curran and Chahal’s Tug Of War
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to put CSK in to bat first. After a shaky start, Sam Curran came to the rescue with an explosive 88 off 47 balls, which featured 9 fours and 4 sixes. Just as things were getting back on track for CSK, Yuzvendra Chahal (4/32) struck for PBKS and turned the game on its head. With a sensational four-wicket over, including a hat-trick, he clinically destroyed the CSK’s lower order, restricting them to 190.
Iyer Leads the Way
In response, captain Shreyas Iyer (72 off 41 balls) with Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 36 balls) anchored the innings for PBKS. Their partnership laid a solid foundation, and despite some late hiccups, PBKS managed to chase down the target with two balls to spare. CSK had its awe inspiring moment, when Dewald Brevis took a stunning catch at the boundary, to get Shashank Singh out.
Shreyas Iyer was declared Player Of The Match for his efforts. However it was a mixed day for him as he was fined 12 lakhs for slow over rate.
